How many lottery tickets you need to buy to win: British mathematicians gave the answer

Mathematicians from the UK have figured out how many tickets you need to buy to guarantee a lottery win. They disclosed this figure and even provided their calculations.

However, such a scheme works in the British lottery. It is unknown whether it will be suitable for the Ukrainian system.

How many lottery tickets should I buy?

According to the rules of the UK National Lottery, the draw is held twice a week with six numbers from one to 59 drawn randomly. According to the mathematicians David Stewart and David Cushing, the minimum number of tickets required to guarantee any win is 27.

The men developed a list of 27 specific tickets that, from a mathematical point of view, covered all possible numbers to get some kind of win. The researchers used a simple mathematical system called finite geometry, which involves applying numbers from one to 59 in pairs or threes on a series of geometric shapes.

As we can see, each set of numbers is then connected by lines to form a series of six numbers that equals one winning ticket. According to them, it takes 27 of them to cover all 59 numbers and ensure that at least one pair matches.
