Hydrogen car traveled almost 2500 kilometers on a single refueling station (video)

A tiny hydrogen fuel cell electric car has set a Guinness World Record.

Students of the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands drove the Eco-Runner XIII car developed in the technical workshop of the university 2488 kilometers on just one kilogram of hydrogen fuel. The route took place on the German Imendigen highway and lasted three days.

At the same time, the future engineers set a new world record for the longest distance traveled on a single tank of environmentally friendly gas, entering the Guinness Book of Records.

Young inventors have proven that hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles that generate electricity have a promising solution for industrial production: the Delft team sees the hydrogen-powered car as a complement to traditional electric vehicles, not as a competitor.

“Hydrogen and electric vehicles go hand in hand. There is no one big winner. It is clear that the future of alternative fuels in the coming years will be based on cooperation, not conflict,” said Elin Schwietert, the group’s spokeswoman.

By the way, earlier this year, the global automotive giant BMW launched its iX5 Hydrogen cars with a hydrogen engine, opening the door to a promising segment of transportation, which inspired students to intensify development with this type of power unit.

Although the Eco-Runner model XIII is currently positioned as the most efficient electric hydrogen car, it is not yet worth counting on its mass production. This is just a hint of serious developments in the future. Despite its impressive range, the 158-pound (71 kg) single-seater can only reach a speed of 44 km/h.

This segment remains promising. In 2022, more than 56,000 hydrogen vehicles were sold worldwide, and its market is expected to reach $17.88 billion in terms of demand value by 2029.
