Infinix has shown smartphones with E-Ink displays that change color without energy consumption
The Chinese company Infinix, which many might not have even heard of, brought unusual smartphones to CES 2024. Their back panels can change color without consuming energy.
According to transmits The Verge, on the back of such smartphones are installed additional screens built on E-Ink technology. Such displays are usually found in e-books.
If desired, the user can change the color of the back cover to any of the available colors. For example, a black-and-white smartphone can be colored in blue, pink, green, and red. You can also mix colors – as a result, you will have a unique smartphone with your own design.

The unique technology is called E-Color Shift. The company’s Prism 3 electronic inks are used for its implementation. E-Ink. The back panel of the phone includes exactly 60 separate elements – each of them is able to change color depending on the time or mood of the user.
Infinix emphasized that the always-on E-Ink display does not affect the battery life of the device, as energy is consumed only when the ink color changes. It is not known when such chameleon smartphones will go on sale.
