Israel strikes regions of Syria where Russian military bases are located – Reuters

The Israeli Defense Forces attacked the city of Tartus, located on the Mediterranean coast, and the Shuairat military airfield, which is used by Russia in its military operations.

Reuters writes that two Syrian soldiers were killed and six were wounded.

The Syrian army said that Israeli missiles allegedly hit the outskirts of the city of Hama, causing only “some material damage.”

An opposition source said that the latest strike also targeted the Shuayrat military airfield in the southeast of the central province of Homs.

This base is one of the country’s main military air bases, which Russia, as Assad’s main ally, has fortified and uses to conduct raids against his enemies.

It should be noted that in recent years, Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Iranian targets in Syria, but has largely avoided attacks on coastal provinces where Russian military forces are concentrated. In the port of Tartus, in particular, there is a Russian naval base.
