It has increased destruction capabilities: Norway demonstrates NSM anti-ship guided missile that cannot be seen by enemy electronic warfare
The Norwegian concern Kongsberg has presented a model of its flagship product, the NSM (Nytt sjømålsmissil) anti-ship guided missile.
The NSM is the only weapon of this type in the world whose hull is designed to limit its effective radar reflection area, and the only one that is guided at the target (in the last, final phase) using passive systems with an infrared camera.
This means that the object targeted by the NSM will not be “warned” of the impending threat by electronic warfare means, and detection of the approaching missile will be significantly delayed.
Both of these features, combined with the ability to hit a selected target area virtually on target, mean that despite its relatively small warhead weighing 120 kg, the missile has significant capabilities.
Today, the Norwegian manufacturer is the most influential player in the international anti-ship missile market, and NSM practically dominates the Western market, having replaced the outdated RGM 84 Harpoon.
