It is fundamentally different from the “sovietness”. Ukrainian military tell about advantages of Leopard 2 tank

The German Leopard 2 tank is fundamentally different from the Soviet equipment. Tankers from the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Magura”, who are actively engaged in offensive operations in the Zaporizhzhia sector, shared their impressions in an interview.

The commander of the Leopard 2A6 tank noted the advantages of the vehicle, including its maneuverability and high engine power. The tank weighs 62.3 tons, but thanks to a turbo diesel engine with a specific power of 24 hp/t, it can move quite fast.

The tank’s gunner noted the high quality of the optics and called it “just great” and the ability to see targets at a distance of 4-5 km, including manpower. He also mentioned the gun’s stabilization and smoothness, which improve the accuracy of fire and simplify aiming.

“We can drive at high speeds, 50-60 km/h over rough terrain, and I can keep the target in sight,” said the German tank gunner.

The gunner also noted that the vehicle is ergonomically pleasing due to its larger interior space and higher level of protection, which increases the chances of crew survival on the battlefield.

“Compared to Soviet tanks, the situation when the entire ammunition detonates and the crew disappears in an explosion that demolishes the turret is impossible in Western vehicles,” the tanker said.

Earlier, it was noted that in the 13 weeks since the start of the counteroffensive in the south and east of Ukraine, the Ukrainian army has suffered only five losses among 71 Leopard 2 tanks.
