“It looks like the Cybertruck is going to float soon.” Musk says new mods will allow the electric vehicle to travel 100 meters under water

Elon Musk’s 2022 joke looks like it will soon become a reality. In a post on X, the billionaire wrote that the Cybertruck could partially turn into a boat after the upgrade.

“We’re going to offer a mod package that will allow Cybertruck to travel at least 100 meters through water like a boat. For the most part, all you need to do is upgrade the interior door seals,” he wrote.

With this comment, Musk responded to a post by X user Sawyer Merritt, who posted an excerpt from the latest episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, which featured Cybertruck. In the video, Lars Moravi, Tesla’s vice president of car development, said that the car could easily turn into a boat.

“Elon really wanted to make a boat out of it. It almost floats, but you might have to put a little extra effort into holding it,” Moravi Leno said.

“You can figure out how to put an outboard motor, plug it into an outlet, and go for a boat ride.

Three years ago, Elon Musk did talk about a “water” version of Cybertruck, although at the time the statement seemed like a joke. At the same time, the electric pickup was inspired by the Lotus Esprit S1, a submarine car from the tenth Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me.

In 2013, the billionaire even bought one of the cars used for filming for almost a million dollars.

  • Musk first announced the Cybertruck back in 2019, but deliveries of the truck began only at the end of November. At the same time, the rigid construction and design with corners have already caused ridicule among some users and safety concerns among experts.
