Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos has sold about 12 million shares of the online retailer and cloud services company for about $2 billion. This became known from the company’s corporate report, published on Friday, writes Reuters. The sale took place on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the filed documents.

The deal comes shortly after Amazon announced Bezos’ plan to sell up to 50 million shares of the company over the next year. According to the company’s latest annual report, the sale plan, which is subject to certain conditions, was adopted on November 8, 2023 and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2025.

Bezos, who stepped down as CEO and became executive chairman in 2021, founded Amazon as a bookstore in 1994. He is now the second richest man in the world with a fortune of $200 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
