Kamikaze boats carried 850 kg of explosives to blow up the Crimean bridge
Such an operation required not only special planning but also special processing of unmanned boats
CNN published a new report on Ukraine’s kamikaze naval drones and the effective attacks using these weapons on the Crimean Bridge on July 17, 2023, on the Russian Navy landing ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak on August 4, 2023, and on the Sig military tanker on August 5, 2023. For this report, we used exclusive footage provided by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, also gave his comments for this report, and we can learn crucial details from him. For the attack on the Crimean Bridge, the special service used a special version of marine drones called SeaBaby, which carried a warhead weighing as much as 850 kilograms. Kamikaze boats with a 450-kilogram warhead were used to attackOlenegorskiy Gornyak and Sig.
Vasyl Malyuk also emphasized that the SeaBaby version of the maritime drones was the result of many months of work carried out by SBU specialists alone. At the same time, the attack on the Crimean Bridge on July 17, 2023, was carried out in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy.
The details described above are fundamentally important because they reveal the following nuances. The very fact that the SeaBaby drone has such a powerful warhead proves that this kamikaze boat has a reinforced hull, which also denies the version that “kamikaze jet skis” could have been involved in this attack.
In turn, the fact that kamikaze boats with a 450-kilogram warhead are being used shows that our designers have finally succeeded in creating the optimal version of such a weapon that guarantees critical damage to the targeted ships upon impact. A photo with a 4×3 meter hole in the Olenegorskiy Gornyak landing ship proves this clearly.
Therefore, we can assume that this version of kamikaze marine drones with such equipment will now become the main one in the production and conduct of new attacks on Russian maritime targets.
It is also important that the power of our maritime drones was increased without a noticeable increase in size, and while maintaining the appropriate level of stealth for the enemy.
As previously reported by Defense Express, Russia could have “slept through” the attack by marine drones on the Crimean Bridge on July 17, 2023, precisely because our kamikaze boats have an extremely small hull size (approximately 5 meters) and can sail in a low-noise mode. All of this together leads to the fact that the racists notice our maritime drones only when they are close to the object or ship that has become the target of the attack.
