Kia has released an electric car based on the Picanto

Kia has resumed sales of the Picanto-based electric van after six years.

South Korea has started accepting orders for the 3.6-meter-long Ray EV single-volume vehicle. The basis is the updated 2022 microvan, but with a different filling.

An electric motor replaced the three-cylinder 1.0-liter “atmospheric” engine. A traction battery appeared between the axles. With the new filling, the WLTP mixed cycle range has been increased to 205 kilometers.

The Kia Ray EV is equipped with a 35.2-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron phosphate battery. Under the hood, an electric motor is boosted to 87 horsepower and 147 Nm. The developers claim that the new car is more dynamic and quieter than its gasoline counterpart. The differences in the cabin are reduced to a different center console and the presence of an under steering wheel switch for driving modes.

The Kia Ray EV is available as a van and a four-seat passenger compact van, with a black or light gray interior. Prices range from 20.7-22.3 thousand dollars. An electric car in South Korea has a warranty of up to ten years or 160 thousand kilometers.
