Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace is investing several tens of millions of dollars in the construction of a service center for the fifth generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets, according to their official website.

What is known

The facility will operate as part of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Approximately $46 million will be invested in the construction of the center. It is expected to start servicing stealth aircraft in the second half of 2025.

The facility will be built by Aviation Maintenance Services. This department of Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace will also manage future operations. It is expected that the new center will be used for maintenance of fighter jets from other countries. It is currently being implemented in Italy. This is part of Norway’s commitment to the F-35 program.

Kongsberg Aviation Maintenance Services has partnered with Pratt & Whitney to maintain and modernize F-35 Lightning II fighters and F135 powerplants. Since 2020, the plant in Ruge has been testing engines for the Royal Norwegian Air Force’s F-35.
