Longer than iPhone: Samsung Galaxy S24 will receive updates for 7 years – up to Android 21

At the presentation, Samsung unveiled its new flagships Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. But perhaps the main news of the event was the extension of the support period for new products.

Samsung speakers have officially announced that all 3 models of the Galaxy S24 line will receive updates for 7 years. And it’s not just security patches, but also major operating system updates.

Since smartphones come with Android 14 out of the box, they can count on Android 21 (whatever the name of this version of the operating system is). That is, if you buy a smartphone in 2024, you will continue to receive updates in the 30s.

Prior to that, Samsung offered its flagship devices 4 years of major Android updates and 5 years of security patches. For a long time, this was the best policy in Android until Google introduced the Pixel 8 series last year with 7 years of major updates.

Now, both Samsung and Google are ahead of their main competitor, Apple, which tends to support iPhones for about 6 years, give or take depending on the model.
