Lukashenko is updating his arsenal: modernization of the Uragan MLRS has begun

The Belarusian army has begun the process of modernizing its fleet of 9K57 Uragan multiple launch rocket systems.

This was reported by the Belarusian Hayun with reference to the press center of the Western Operational Command of the Belarusian Army.

As noted in the press center, the first batch of 9K57 Uragan MLRSs has been sent for modernization. This will improve both the operational capabilities of the missile systems and the ability to fire.

Instead of two eight-cylinder gasoline engines, the systems will be equipped with new four-cylinder D-245 turbocharged diesel engines. These Belarusian engines are also installed on modernized Ukrainian Uragan MLRSs.

The communication equipment will be replaced with modern ones, which will enable the division to use encrypted communication channels.

Additionally, modern tablets with a battle map will be used for shooting, which will help reduce the time of aiming the system.

In addition, the 9K57 Uragan will be equipped with the GLONASS global positioning satellite system, which will enable faster and better position calculations.

Judging by the published photos, the first two 9P140s were sent for modernization. They were loaded onto a railroad platform on the territory of the 111th Artillery Brigade (military unit 11921, Brest).

Currently, the Ministry of Defense has no plans to purchase new Uragan-M MLRS based on the 9P140MB.

Instead, a cheaper option was chosen to modernize the existing fleet of vehicles in the army.

As previously reported by Militarnyi, in December 2021, the Republic of Belarus conducted state tests of a prototype combat vehicle of the modernized Uragan-M MLRS.

The tests took place at the Osipovychiiskyi test site as part of the research and development work on the modernization of the Uragan MLRS.
