Lviv University is opening a new program that will teach how to design, manufacture and operate UAVs

Lviv Polytechnic National University and Culver Aviation have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, according to which the company’s specialists will participate in the training of students within the framework of the new educational program “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles”, which will accept the first trainees this year.

From the new academic year at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport of the Lviv Polytechnic at the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering and Welding, a new field of study will start – “Unmanned aerial vehicles” with specialty #134 “Aviation and rocket and space engineering”. According to the new educational and professional program, training will be conducted in the following areas:

  • UAV design and production;
  • UAV maintenance and operation;
  • Welding technologies in the production of UAVs.

“Drones are one of the most innovative technologies needed by businesses in various industries: from the agricultural sector to construction and logistics. Ukraine is a full-fledged participant in this market, we already manufacture decent drones and have the prospect of becoming one of the most prominent players on the world stage. At the same time, the UAV industry is experiencing a shortage of qualified specialists, so the Culver Aviation team will share all its experience to help Lviv Polytechnic train talented Ukrainian engineers,”-  says Oleksandr Danylenko, CEO of Culver Aviation.

As part of the memorandum, the company will share its experience with students, invite them to internships in production and conduct specialized courses and trainings. It will also teach students how to operate drones – they will be able to learn an additional profession and obtain a UAV operator certificate.

“With the help of Culver Aviation, students will be able to deepen their knowledge of engineering, aircraft design and programming in practice, as well as gain additional competencies in remote sensing of the earth, the basics of aerial photography, meteorology and geodesy. We strive to provide students with relevant and applied education – the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles program will be just that. I also invite everyone who wants to attend operator courses at our partners – the “Drone Academy” on the basis of the “Flight city 4.0″ technology park at the State Flight Academy in Kropyvnytskyi”, says Olesya Maksymovych, head of the oil and gas engineering and welding department of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Transport.
