“Mavka” will be turned into a multi-episode cartoon
Ukrainian cartoon “Mavka. The Forest Song” will become a 3D animated series. The project, which will be presented at the pitching of the International Animation Content Market MIFA during the Annecy festival, will be a prequel to the film. This was reported by Variety on June 12.
“The events unfold immediately after the battle between the humans and the forest guardian, the Forester, which took place when the rest of the forest inhabitants fell into a deep winter sleep,” Film.UA representative Ksenia Baranova told the publication.
In each of the 12 episodes, Mavka and her friends will face new challenges, and their task is to help the forest recover from the battle and restore order and harmony.
Mavka will also have a new friend, the “frivolous” Vihola, who seems to attract trouble. And the monster Chugayster often stands in the way of the main character.
“We see it (the series – ed.) as a possible franchise. We have already launched a dance show and will be planning a sequel,” added producer Iryna Kostiuk in an interview with Variety.
On June 15, the concept of the upcoming series will be presented by the Ukrainian studio Animagrad, which produced the film, and the French animation company TeamTo.
Despite the war, Mavka. The Forest Song” became the highest-grossing domestic film in the history of Ukraine, as well as the highest-grossing animated film. Kostyuk said:“We’re ahead of such Hollywood hits as The Secret Life of Pets, Minions, and both parts of Frozen.
To date, Mavka has been sold to more than 80 countries. The total project budget is UAH 187 million. The share of state participation in the production is UAH 49.5 million. As of May 29, box office receipts reached UAH 148.7 million. A total of 1.18 million tickets were sold.
“The film has been or will be released everywhere except China, and negotiations are underway for Japan and South Africa. Our partners are amazed at how well it sells“, Kostiuk added.
