MBDA France develops low-cost ATGM to replace Eryx, Milan and AT4 F2

The French ground forces are armed with four types of anti-tank systems. In addition, the infantrymen are using AT4 hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers.

MMP Akeron is considered to be the most advanced ATGM. It belongs to the fifth generation of anti-tank systems. In addition to it, the French army wants to get an inexpensive means of fire damage to armored vehicles. It will replace three anti-tank systems at once.

These are the Eryx and Milan ATGMs, as well as the AT4 F2 disposable grenade launcher. MBDA France took over the development of the new complex. It will be capable of destroying enemy armored vehicles at medium ranges.

The leadership of the French General Staff is closely monitoring the events on the Ukrainian front and drawing appropriate conclusions. According to Cédric Godilier, who heads the development evaluation department at the General Staff, the French military leadership decided not to place an order for 10,000 Akeron MMPs because they are expensive and time-consuming to produce. The volume of the ordered batch was reduced to 2,000 units. As an alternative, MBDA France will develop an inexpensive differentiated missile.
