Men aged 18-25 will soon be able to be mobilized in Ukraine
In February, the Verkhovna Rada plans to consider a bill on mandatory basic military training for men aged 18-25. Thus, the mobilization age may be reduced, since after military training, men can automatically be subject to mobilization from the age of 20.
Volodymyr Romanchuk, a lawyer and junior lieutenant in the reserve, told this in a commentary to ZN.UA
“Young men need skills, because the war is ongoing, and the enemy who attacked does not spare even civilians. Therefore, basic military training is what Ukrainian men need now. Today, society perceives new innovations as something bad, so the government needs to communicate with people and explain that in a country at war, even women need basic military training, not to mention men,” said Volodymyr Romanchuk.
He also added that the new draft law provides for the abolition of conscription, which will be replaced by mandatory military basic training for men aged 18-25 starting in 2025. The new mobilization draft law should also clearly state the age limit for conscription, because after basic military training a man will receive a military specialty and such men can be mobilized under Ukrainian law. That is, if a man has completed basic military training at the age of 18, he can be drafted into the armed forces at the age of 20.
