MI6 chief Richard Moore calls on Russians “stunned” by Russia’s war against Ukraine to unite and spy for British intelligence
He said this during a speech at the British Embassy in Prague.
“Today, there are many Russians who are silently stunned as their armed forces destroy Ukrainian cities, drive innocent families from their homes, and kidnap thousands of children,” Moore said.
He also called Putin’s attack on Ukraine a crime.
“They (Russians – ed.) are watching in horror as their soldiers devastate their own country. They know in their hearts that Putin’s order to attack a close Slavic nation is a fraud,” the UK intelligence chief said.
Moore compared the current situation in Ukraine to that in Prague in 1968, when the Soviet Union reversed liberalization reforms.
“As Russians witness the venality, internal strife, and callous incompetence of their leaders – human error at its worst – many more Russians are now struggling with the same dilemmas and the same pangs of conscience as their predecessors in 1968,” he said.
Moore called on the Russians to cooperate with British intelligence.
“I invite Russians to do what others have already done in the last 18 months and join us. Our doors are always open. We will consider their offers of assistance with the care and professionalism for which MI6 is renowned. Their secrets will always be safe with us, and we will work together to stop the bloodshed. My services are guided by the principle that our loyalty to our agents is lifelong and our gratitude is endless,” explained the head of MI6.
