Microsoft launches Xbox Mastercard credit card – with points redeemable in games

You can earn points on the card when you buy games or subscribe to Netflix, etc.

In September, Microsoft will launch the Xbox Mastercard, a free annual payment card issued by Barclays. Purchases made with it will generate points that can be redeemed for Xbox games and apps.

For now, the Xbox Mastercard is available exclusively to Xbox testers in the United States.

“With the Xbox Mastercard credit card, players can earn card points for everyday purchases to redeem for games and add-ons on xbox.com,” explains Dave McCarthy, CVP of Xbox Player Services. “The Xbox Mastercard will be available exclusively to Xbox Insiders in 50 states starting September 21, and to all Xbox players in 50 states in 2024.”

Each dollar spent generates a point – 1500 points, for example, will be enough to get a $15 gift card that can be redeemed in the Microsoft Xbox online store.

Xbox Mastercard cardholders will earn 5 points for every $1 spent on products in the Microsoft Store, three points for every $1 spent on streaming services such as Netflix and Disney Plus, and three points for every $1 spent on Grubhub and DoorDash delivery services.

The annual interest rate ranges from 20.99% to 31.99%, depending on the loan.

Cardholders will receive a bonus of 5000 points (equivalent to $50) immediately after the first purchase, as well as a 3-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription for new Game Pass members (you can give them to friends or family if you are already a Game Pass member).

Five designs have been developed for the card, and it is also possible to customize it with a player tag.

In 2005, Microsoft had already launched a free Xbox Live Diamond loyalty card for Xbox Live subscribers, which provided discounts at participating retailers. Sony also offers its own PlayStation credit card with a points system that can be redeemed for games, movies, electronics, and more.
