Mobilization in Ukraine: who will be drafted in September and who will be taken to the army

Government officials have recently made numerous statements regarding mobilization and its possible intensification. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that this issue had indeed been raised.

Martial law and general mobilization continue to be in effect in Ukraine. Between now and November 15, all citizens liable for military service between the ages of 18 and 60 may receive a call-up for further service.

In one of his recent interviews, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that citizens might be facing “increased mobilization” because the military had told him about it.

Mobilization in Ukraine: what will change from September 1

Last week, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that mobilization in Ukraine would continue as planned. Accordingly, there should be no additional mobilization.

Currently, changes are being implemented only at the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centers (TSCs), where the staff is being updated. In the fall, an additional mobilization resource will also be held.

At the same time, NSDC Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said that mobilization has been going smoothly for the entire year and a half of the war, and Ukraine has never reached the targets that were approved.

“The military takes care of our servicemen and calls up exactly as many as they need to perform their tasks… Our mobilization has not stopped for a single day, but it is based on the need of the boys and girls who need to be called up to perform certain tasks… The first stage of mobilization has already been completed, so there is no need to make a fuss,” the statement said.

Mobilization in Ukraine: who will be served with draft notices in the fall

Starting from September 1, citizens liable for military service between the ages of 18 and 60 can be drafted, meaning that no significant changes are expected.

First of all, the Ukrainian army needs citizens with combat experience, and only then people with certain specialties: drivers, communications, UAV operators, sniping specialists – instructors and shooters, IT specialists.

The following categories of citizens are subject to mobilization:

  • fit and partially fit for health reasons during martial law men with military service experience between the ages of 18 and 60;
  • fit and partially fit men aged 27 to 60 without military service experience;
  • men between the ages of 18 and 60 who have been declared fit or partially fit by a decision of the military qualification commission are excluded from military registration.
