Money down the drain: expensive Apple Vision Pro glasses crack for no reason
The Apple Vision Pro virtual reality headset turned out to be quite fragile for its price. The same damage indicates the same cause.
Several owners of the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset have reported that a crack has appeared on the front of their device. At the time of its introduction, the headset was not in use, but simply stored. This is reported by the Wccftech website.
One of the images on reddit shows that there is a crack in the center of the front side of Apple Vision Pro. The owner claims that the headset was simply packed and closed with a lid, and the user discovered the crack in the morning and said that no one had moved the Apple Vision Pro in the box. He believes that there was a strain on the glass, which creates tension due to its unique shape.
“What happened? Last night I polished the front of the headset, packed it up with the lid on, and when I woke up this morning, I saw this crack. There was no falling or flipping in the case. There seems to be a consistent manufacturing issue with the glass – my uneducated guess is that the unique shape creates a certain amount of tension over the nose where the glass cracks over time, even without any outside force,” the headset owner wrote.
He noted that he has Apple Care warranty insurance, so he expects a free replacement of the device, but users who did not want to pay $500 extra for this service may find themselves in a very unpleasant situation. We can only hope that this is a very rare case, but if not, the author believes that Apple should provide a factory warranty for such cracks and not charge customers for repairs.
Another user reported that he left Apple Vision Pro charging, and when the owner came to pick up the device, it had a large crack on it. It is unlikely that replenishing the battery could have caused it to form. Everything seems to point to a problem with the materials used in Apple’s production. However, Apple’s support team informed users that the repair would cost $300 with the AppleCare program, and without it it would cost $800, which is the base price of the iPhone 15.
The crack in the second case appeared almost in the same place as in the first, which may indicate that the appearance of such cracks in the pattern may occur in anyone else, but unfortunately only time can tell. As a reminder, customers return Apple Vision Pro without cracks for various reasons.
