More than 80% of Russian applications are not protected from hacking in any way
A study conducted by the employees of Stingray Technologies proved that the majority of mobile applets created by Russian developers are not protected from hacking in any way. The vulnerabilities in the applications identified by the authors can be used by hackers to break into accounts, steal personal data, install spyware, steal funds from bank cards, blackmail, etc.
The company ‘Stingray Technologies’ is engaged in the provision of cyber security. From the results of the research published by the company’s employees, it follows that 83% of mobile applications created in Russia are very poorly protected. In total, they studied 790 mobile applets as part of the study. Experts in the field of cyber security managed to identify more than 12,000 vulnerabilities.
For example, the share of financial applications with vulnerabilities was 85%. They were discovered by researchers in 117 applets. The second place with an indicator of 78% was taken by auxiliary applications. Vulnerabilities were found in 96 such applets. Rounding out the top three are entertainment apps. Vulnerabilities were present in 79 applets (75%).
In 2022, the number of hacker attacks on Russian applications increased fivefold. As a rule, cyber attacks are aimed at stealing personal data, creating fake accounts, and depriving users of access to various online services.
