Musk said that Taiwan is an integral part of China. The government has already responded

Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, Joseph Wu, responded to the comparison of Taiwan to Hawaii made by businessman Elon Musk. He said that the island was supposedly an integral part of China.

“Listen, Taiwan is not part of China and is definitely not for sale,” Wu wrote in X.

Last week at a business summit, Elon Musk compared Taiwan to Hawaii, which is one of the US states.

This is not the first time that Musk, who has business interests in China, has drawn the wrath of the Taiwanese government with his comments. In October 2022, he suggested that tensions between Beijing and Taipei could be resolved by giving China some control over Taiwan.

At the time, in an interview with the Financial Times, Musk said that he believed the two governments would be able to reach a “fairly acceptable” agreement. China’s ambassador to the United States praised Musk, but his Taiwanese counterpart gave a similar response to Wu’s that freedom is “not for sale.”

Wu also added on X: “I hope Elon Musk can also ask the PDA to open X to its people.” The X Mask platform, formerly known as Twitter, is banned in China.
