Military operations in Sudan. Oil company skyscraper on fire in Kyiv (photos, video)

In Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, a skyscraper belonging to the Greater Nile Petroleum Oil Company is on fire. The military confrontation between the country’s army and the Rapid Response Forces (RSF) continues in the city.

It is not yet known exactly what caused the fire in the 18-story skyscraper of the oil company.


Air strikes and ground fighting have been going on in Khartoum and other cities since April. According to the UN, more than a million people have fled the country.

  • In July, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the fighting in Sudan

    and said that the country was “on the verge of a full-scale civil war”,
  • Fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Response Forces (RSF) broke out on April 15, 2023. The RSF opposes the current government and says it wants to establish democracy in the country. So far, more than 3,000 people have been killed and 6,000 wounded in the conflict. On July 8, an air strike on the Sudanese city of Omdurman killed at least 22 people.
