“Mutant tank”: the occupants equipped T-62M with the latest dynamic protection “Relict” (photo)

A photo of a Russian T-62M tank with a number of modernizations, from a modern sight to the Relict dynamic defense, was posted on social media.

This was reported by tank expert Andriy Tarasenko.

The photo shows the T-62M tank, which has several features. The vehicle was equipped with the latest Russian dynamic protection “Relict”, a “Sosna-U” sight, and the traditional turret visor. The T-62M tank was shown online for the first time as a seriously modernized tank. Prior to that, the Relict was installed only on the more modern T-80BVM and T-90M Proryv.

The sighting system on the tank has also been updated – the PNM-T or Sosna-U sight. The author calls the tank a “strange mutant” because its sides have T-72B3 or T-90M body kits, the turret has a T-90M body kit, and the upper frontal part has an old metal-polymer block.

Relict is a Russian development of dynamic protection based on Kontakt-5. According to the declared characteristics, Relict protects against tandem ammunition, up to 90% of cumulative munitions, and up to 50% of armor-piercing sub-caliber shells.

Tank modernization project with the Relict gun system

The author notes that the Russian Federation had projects to modernize the T-55 or T-62 with the installation of the Relict dynamic protection, as well as to improve the dynamics of the vehicle.
