NASA’s SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft will receive new equipment for the Artemis II manned mission

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to install new equipment on the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and the Orion spacecraft. This decision was made after analyzing the results of the Artemis I mission.

What is known

The mobile launcher for the rocket was damaged during the launch. Experts have already repaired one of the two damaged elevators and are preparing to strengthen the second. The issue of nitrogen supply also needs to be resolved, as the system was disrupted during the November launch. This led to corrosion of the pneumatic lines, as it was not possible to supply water in time and wash away the residues that cause corrosion.

Scientists also want to improve the thermal insulation layer. Although NASA said that the level of thermal insulation destruction was within acceptable limits. The destruction of the shell would not have harmed the astronauts if they had been aboard the Orion spacecraft.
