NAVI from Ukraine become historical champions in Counter-Strike 2
The Ukrainian esports team Natus Vincere (NAVI) has won the final of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 World Championship, defeating the American team FaZe Clan. This victory put NAVI’s name in history as the first world champions in Counter-Strike 2, the new version of the popular eSports game.
In a tense three-map final, NAVI demonstrated an impressive performance, winning two of the three maps. The first map Ancient ended with a score of 13:9 in favor of the Ukrainians, the second map Mirage was won by FaZe with a score of 13:2, and on the third map Inferno NAVI won with a score of 13:3, securing the championship title and the main prize of $500 thousand. from the total prize pool of $1.25 million.
On their way to the finals, NAVI faced several strong opponents, including defeating Eternal Fire in the quarterfinals and G2 in the semifinals, despite previous losses to Spirit and Cloud9 in the qualifying round.
In a statement, the NAVI team emphasized that the victory in such a difficult time for Ukraine inspires fans, reminding them of the difficulties the country faces on a daily basis. During the broadcast of the championship, UAH 5.6 million was raised to support Azov, and the owner of NAVI promised to double this amount.
This victory was NAVI’s second triumph at the World Championships, adding to their success in Stockholm in 2021. PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 went down in history as the first Counter-Strike 2 championship, setting a high bar for future competitions.
