NBU introduces user verification for replenishment of accounts through self-service terminals

On June 30, the NBU issued resolutions #90 and #89. These documents introduce new rules for replenishment of accounts through self-service terminals (self-service software and hardware complexes) starting from August 1.

Thus, starting from August 1, 2023, details will be added to receipts generated during cash transactions using payment devices, including terminals. In particular, receipts for cash deposit transactions using terminals for crediting cash to accounts must additionally contain the payer’s mobile phone number.

In this regard, in order to credit money to the account, the payer must::

  • enter your mobile phone number on the terminal screen;
  • receive a one-time password to this number (by text message or phone call);
  • enter a one-time password on the terminal screen confirming consent to the payment transaction;
  • receive a receipt.

For which transactions will verification be applied?

The new requirements apply to cash deposit transactions via self-service terminals.

At the same time, identification requirements will not apply to such payments:

– payment of utility bills, telephone, television, electricity, gas, internet, security.
– paying for tickets; paying for urban and suburban transportation; replenishing travel cards.
– payment of taxes, fines, administrative services, fees and other payments to the budget.
