New batch of US classified documents leaked on social media

On April 7, U.S. journalists reported that a new batch of classified documents had appeared on social media, which, according to preliminary findings, may contain information on U.S. security secrets regarding Ukraine, the Middle East, and China. It is important to note that only the day before it was announced that documents related to the war in Ukraine had been leaked.

This was reported by the New York Times.

Experts say that more than 100 documents could have been leaked, and the scale of the leak and the confidentiality of the documents could cause serious damage. A senior intelligence official called the leak “a nightmare for the Five Eyes,” a group of countries that includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada that cooperate in intelligence sharing.

The documents were found on Twitter, the 4chan message board, and other sites. One of the slides, dated February 23, is marked “Secret/NoForn,” meaning it is not intended for transfer to other countries. And 4chan published a map that allegedly shows the situation in Bakhmut, where fierce fighting is taking place.

However, the leak is not just about Ukraine. Security analysts who examined the documents noted that they contain confidential data on China, the Indian Pacific region, the Middle East, and the situation with terrorism.

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the leak and is communicating with the Pentagon, but both agencies declined to comment further.

As a reminder, classified military documents detailing secret US and NATO plans to build up the Ukrainian army ahead of a planned offensive against Russia were leaked on Twitter and Telegram this week.
