Russian airfields are again attacked by drones, at least one enemy bomber was damaged.
The Armed Forces and the Security Service of Ukraine hit enemy equipment at the Morozovsk airfield in Rostov region, the attack was carried out by unmanned aerial vehicles, and that it resulted in “significant damage” to the enemy’s equipment.
According to UP, citing sources in the security forces, up to 20 Su-24 aircraft were stationed at the Morozovsk airfield at the time of the attack, as well as three radars and other equipment.
This morning, December 17, the so-called Russian Ministry of Defense reported in the traditional style on another repelled attack by Ukrainian drones: first, the enemy claimed that its air defense systems had allegedly intercepted 33 aircraft-type UAVs over three regions – Lipetsk, Rostov and Volgograd. Later, the Russian Defense Ministry reported two more drones that were allegedly shot down over the Volgograd region.
Of course, the number of drones that attacked targets in Russia last night remains unknown, but later photos appeared on the web showing that at least one Russian aircraft was damaged as a result of the attack.
The footage above shows a downed Russian Su-34 bomber at the Morozovsk airfield, as well as the wreckage of one of the drones that allegedly attacked the enemy airfield. It is worth noting that the enemy protected this plane with a net, which in fact proved to be helpless against the damaging elements that pierced it and damaged the plane itself.
The available photos make it difficult to assess the actual extent of damage to the aircraft, but it is possible that it could have been more seriously damaged by the attack. And it also remains unknown how many planes were hit at least at this airport or other airports.
The enemy’s Morozovsk airfield is located in the Rostov region and is home to the 559th Bomber Regiment, which is part of the 1st Mixed Aviation Division of the so-called “air and space” forces of the enemy.
During 2013-2015, the 559th Bomber Regiment received 36 Su-34 bombers, which were organized into three squadrons (we talked about the reinforcement of Russian Su-34 regiments with third squadrons in a separate article). Su-24 bombers were also based there.
As for the attacks on other Russian targets on the night of December 17, as previously reported in the UP, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine was involved in the attacks on Lipetsk and Volgograd regions. At the same time, the results of these attacks remain unknown.
