New feature on Instagram: you can now insert short looping videos into your notes
The private messages tab on Instagram will become a little busier. The app introduces the option to add two-second looping videos and direct replies to notes, a feature similar to status updates that is located at the top of the private message tab.
The feature was first introduced a year ago as a way to quickly share text updates with followers and friends. Since then, the company has also added music and translation capabilities. Now, with the latest changes, users will also be able to add 2-second looped videos, almost like a mini-boomerang. The video will appear instead of the usual profile photo.
At the same time, Meta also adds the ability for people to interact with their friends’ notes, just like you can reply to a post in Stories. If you click on a message at the top of your inbox, a shortcut will appear to reply with a GIF, sticker, voice note, photo, or text. Replies to notes are sent to users’ inboxes along with other messages.
These updates came as Meta was looking for easier ways to encourage users to share information in their apps, including with small groups of friends. Recently, the company launched the ability to share posts and videos only with “close friends. It was also recently noticed that it is working on a feature called “flipside”.
In addition, Meta is gradually rolling out a set of new tools on Instagram that give users more control over how much spam and bots they see in their feeds. Users will also be notified if their post complies with the community rules. New tools will be introduced gradually over the coming weeks.
An automated spam detection system checks comments, tags, story views, and followers for spam. Moderation systems will flag fake followers and spam, and provide users with the ability to delete these items in bulk to save them time.
Posts from profiles marked as spam will not appear in content creators’ accounts unless they are approved. The account owner can review, bulk delete, or approve any tagging requests flagged by the system. Instagram will also send in-app notifications if it detects posts that violate its content policy.
