New product from Samsung: Galaxy Ring, an innovative smart ring for fitness and health monitoring
At the end of the Unpacked presentation, Samsung “teased” the audience with its new “powerful and affordable” fitness device, the Galaxy Ring.
Samsung has been tight-lipped about the device – in fact, all we have so far is a render and a name. No specifications, price, or release date have been announced, only that the ring is a “powerful and affordable” health device.

Signs that the company was preparing a Galaxy Ring appeared last year when Samsung applied for a patent for a smart ring that would provide ECG and smart home control (later, the device was mentioned in the Health app).
Later, in an interview with Techradar, Samsung’s head of customer service Patrick Chomet clarified that the ring will have several interesting features for sleep.
“We’re building some things with Samsung Health that are really impressive (in terms of sleep). We already have hardware and software. But we’re looking to build a complete package that people will use at scale. That will happen later this year,” Chamet said.
Given Chamet’s words, we can assume that the Galaxy Ring will be fully announced at the next Unpacked, which is expected to take place sometime between July and August. Samsung has also confirmed that a major update to the Health app will be released “later this year,” so it’s likely that Ring will debut alongside these changes.
Of course, Samsung is not an innovator in the smart ring industry. A similar device is already being produced by Oura (the third-generation ring will be released in 2022) – it can track sleep, measure heart rate during exercise, and daily activity to make sure you achieve certain goals. It is safe to assume that Galaxy Ring will include the same features and, given the development of AI, will have a few more interesting features.
