Not only the Marder BMP and the Patriot air defense system: Germany wants to transfer an additional batch of Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine
The German government plans to send to Ukraine not only the Marder air defense system and the Patriot air defense system, but also an additional batch of Gepard anti-aircraft missiles.
The information was shared by the German publication Der Spiegel. According to journalists, Germany is already in talks with two unnamed countries that have the installations, as well as large quantities of 35mm ammunition for them. If Germany manages to come to an agreement, the weapons will be transferred to the Armed Forces in the coming months.
Gepard – this anti-aircraft self-propelled installation is designed to cover ground troops, destroy air targets at inclined ranges from 100 m to 4 km and at heights of up to 3 km, flying at a speed of up to 350-400 m/s, as well as ground and surface targets with with a range of up to 4500 meters. Gepard is built on the Leopard tank chassis. The unit has been manufactured by the Krauss-Maffei company since the mid-70s. By the way, 30 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks are currently in service with the Armed Forces.
