Nuclear submarines “Alexander III” and “Krasnoyarsk” will soon appear in the Russian Navy

The Russian Navy has been replenished with two nuclear submarines: the strategic Alexander III and the multi-purpose Krasnoyarsk.

This was reported by RIA Novosti.

Sevmash has signed documents to transfer two submarines to the Russian Navy. The official flag-raising ceremony is scheduled for December 10. It is noted that the Alexander III is already the 7th submarine of the Borei-A project 995A, while the Krasnoyarsk is the fourth ship of the Yasen-M project 885.

Project 885 submarine

“Krasnoyarsk was founded in 2014. Since 2021, it has been undergoing a series of factory tests. The boat is multi-purpose and has a nuclear power plant. It is armed with Oniks anti-ship missiles and Kalibr-PL cruise missiles. In the future, it is planned to integrate 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missiles.

Main characteristics of the Krasnoyarsk submarine:

  • length – 130 meters;
  • width – 13 meters;
  • displacement – 13.8 thousand tons;
  • The crew consists of 90 people;
  • speed up to 31 knots underwater.

Project 955A submarine

“Alexander III is a submarine that was laid down in Russia in 2015. The boat was launched in December 2022. The nuclear submarine carries 16 Bulava strategic ballistic missiles. It is also armed with 533-mm torpedoes and underwater launch missiles. The 955A project is characterized by the destruction of physical, electrical, acoustic, infrared, and magnetic fields.

Main characteristics of the Alexandra III submarine:

  • length – 170 meters;
  • width – 13.5 meters;
  • The displacement is 24 thousand tons;
  • The crew consists of 107 people;
  • speed up to 20 knots underwater.
