One of the most famous automakers has stopped production of diesel cars

The Swedish automaker Volvo has decided to curtail the production of diesel cars. Recently, the last car with a heavy fuel engine was produced at an automobile plant in Ghent (Belgium). A message about this was published on the company’s Facebook account.

The last Volvo car with a diesel engine was the V60 Cross Country. It has a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine. From now on, the Swedish company’s Belgian car plant will produce only hybrids and electric cars.

The news that Volvo decided to stop production of diesel cars became known last summer. The company intends to fully electrify its model range. By 2030, the automaker will completely abandon the production of cars with internal combustion engines. Volvo expects to become a climate-neutral automaker by 2040.

Diesel cars have been manufactured by the Swedish company since 1979. They were in demand in the European car market. Jim Rowan, who holds the position of CEO at Volvo, says that in 2019, diesel cars were the top sellers in Europe. Nowadays, European motorists prefer electrified models.
