Poland announces the lifting of the blockade of Shehyni-Medica: the government will sign an agreement

Poland is preparing to lift the blockade of the Shehyni-Medica checkpoint on the border with Ukraine.

This was reported by the Rzeczpospolita publication.

Today in Rzeszow, Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekerski will sign an agreement with farmers under the “Deceived Village” agreement, thanks to which they will no longer block the border crossing in Medyka.

The agreement will create a positive dynamic that will also allow road carriers to remove the blocking of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine in the future. This week, there was a line of over a thousand trucks in front of the border crossings in Korchova and Medyka. Its length exceeded 50 kilometers.

As a reminder, after the New Year, Polish farmers returned to blocking the crossing between Ukraine and Poland in Medyka. The first blockade lasted for a month, from November 23 to December 24, 2023, and was suspended on Christmas Eve after a meeting with Agriculture Minister Czeslaw Siekerski and Secretary of State Michal Kolodziejczak.

Now the farmers have returned to blockading the Polish-Ukrainian border crossing, although the government has promised to meet their demands, which relate to both food imports from Ukraine and purely Polish financial issues.
