Poland will reduce the period of legal stay for Ukrainians
Poland has announced the terms for extending the legal stay of Ukrainian citizens with the status of UKR: they are much shorter than expected.
The relevant draft law has been published on the website of the Prime Minister’s Office. According to the draft, it is initially planned to extend the temporary protection of Ukrainians until June 30, 2024. It will also introduce a number of changes to the Special Law for Ukrainians.
The new amendments to the law on refugees will come into force on July 1, 2024. They provide for the legalization of stay in Poland for the relevant categories of Ukrainians in a new format. The relevant changes should be adopted during the first quarter of 2024.
Therefore, the stay of Ukrainian refugees in Poland will be extended until June 30, 2024, and not until September, as previously planned. Also, until this date, certain categories of Ukrainians are allowed to live in buildings for collective living.
Ukrainians staying in the territory of the Republic of Poland on the basis of visas or temporary residence permits may legally stay in the country until June 30, 2024.
Politicians have already announced that Ukrainians should expect cuts in state social benefits.
