Polish combat vehicle Rosomak seen in the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the first time (video)
Rosomak is the main wheeled combat vehicle of the Polish Army, which was ordered for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in April this year.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have started receiving Rosomak combat vehicles from Poland, which were first seen in the ranks of our army.
The video, which has already spread online, shows a CV9040 infantry fighting vehicle and a Strv 122 (Leopard 2A5) tank donated by Sweden, as well as two Rosomaks.
At the same time, Rosomak is armed with a Hitfist turret from the Italian Oto Melara (now part of Leonardo), which is armed with a 30-mm automatic Mk44 Bushmaster II gun. Thus, we are talking about a version of this vehicle in the form of an infantry fighting vehicle.
In April, the company announced that it would receive 200 Rosomak trucks from Poland in two batches of 100 units each. At the same time, we are talking about ordering new machines that will be manufactured in Poland, but the question of financing is open, including not exclusively that the money comes from foreign partners.
It’s also worth noting that Rosomak is a Polish licensed version of the well-known Finnish Patria machine. Production at Wojskowe Zakłady Mechaniczne began in Poland under a 2003 agreement, and the first order was for 690 vehicles, but in October 2013 it was expanded to 997 units.
The 22-ton Rosomak itself has two-layer spaced armor, which is classic for amphibious vehicles of this type – from 14.5-mm machine guns in the front hemisphere and 7.62 in the side projection, as well as protection against 6-kg landmines.
At the same time, it is possible to replace the upper armor layer, which allows to increase the protection against shells of the 30-mm automatic 2A42 gun mounted on BMP-2 and BTR-82. These kits can be installed in the field, and their development was associated with the additional booking of about 100 vehicles for the Polish contingent in Afghanistan.
The Rosomak, which has an 8×8 chassis, is powered by a Scania D1 12 56A03PE turbodiesel engine with 490 hp, a maximum speed of 100 km/h and a water obstacle crossing speed of up to 10 km/h. The vehicle can accommodate up to eight paratroopers and has a crew of three.
