Polish President Duda expresses doubts about Crimea, but is confident that Donbas will return to Ukraine’s control

Polish President Andrzej Duda has questioned the de-occupation of Crimea, but he believes that Donetsk and Luhansk will be fully under Kyiv’s control. Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasyl Zvarych responded to his words.

Andrzej Duda said this in an interview with Kanał Zero on Friday, February 2.

“Today, Russia is trying to win in Ukraine. I will say this: if Russia retains the territories of Ukraine, it will actually be a victory for Russia, and then the likelihood of a new attack by Russia will be very high,” the Polish president said.

He was asked about the de-occupation of Crimea. Duda replied that he did not know whether Ukraine would get it back.

“I don’t know if Ukraine will get back Crimea, but I believe it will get back Donetsk and Luhansk,” he said.

According to him, Crimea is a special place, including for historical reasons. He emphasized that if we look historically, the peninsula had been under Russian control for a longer time.

Ukraine’s reaction to Duda’s words

Zvarych said that Crimea is Ukraine, it is and it will be. According to him, the temporary occupation of the peninsula is a war crime for which Russia will be punished.

“De-occupation of Crimea is our common task and duty with the free world. We will do it without question. We believe and act together,” Zvarych emphasized.

As a reminder, the Southern Defense Forces destroyed a part of the Russian aviation at the Belbek airfield in the temporarily occupied Crimea. It is now known that the occupiers were attacked by at least five missiles that reached their targets.
