In Great Britain, the 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 was exhibited at the Silverstone Motor Show. The loaded hatchback belonged to Princess Diana.
This is one of three Ford Escorts owned at various times by Lady Dee – she loved this model. She drove an Escort convertible, but due to excessive attention from others, she changed it to a limited edition RS Turbo S1 hot hatch.
By the way, almost all 8,600 Ford Escort RS Turbo S1s produced were white, but Princess Diana wanted a black car. Of course, they could not refuse her.
The Ford Escort RS Turbo S1 differs from the standard model in bodywork, a rear spoiler and 15-inch wheels. Recaro sports seats are installed in the cabin.
The hatchback is equipped with a 1.6-liter 132-horsepower turbo engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. It’s not impressive now, but it was not bad for its time – the VW Golf GTI was less powerful then. Acceleration to a hundred takes 8.6 seconds, and the maximum speed is 208 km/h.
Princess Diana drove a Ford Escort for three years, and then it took off and was even played in a competition. The car is well-preserved, and its mileage is only 40,000 km.
