Prisoners were offered to pedal and generate electricity in exchange for a reduced sentence – draft law

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has registered a draft law number 10057, which provides for a reduction in the term of imprisonment for convicts who produce electricity using bicycle generators.

This was reported by Serhiy Hryvko, MP of the Servant of the People party.

“On Friday, one of my creative bills was registered under the number 10057. Its conceptual essence is simple. It is to motivate 50 thousand prisoners to generate electricity through bicycle generating units. If they comply with the standards set by the Ministry of Justice within a month, their sentence will be reduced by 3 days, but not more than 10 months a year. That is, a prisoner can reduce his or her sentence by 30 days in a year. This will directly affect the savings on their maintenance – up to about 8% (up to UAH 200 million),” the author of the bill notes.

“With this draft law, I am showing alternative opportunities for filling the energy system that can be implemented in active sports, gyms and other structures. It would be cool to see a gym that generates electricity. To create something new, you need to act decisively, persistently, creatively and differently! All resources for the sake of victory! Now, the word is up to the public!” adds Hryvko.
