Qualcomm is developing the Oryon processor for Windows laptops
Windows computers built on the basis of ARM processors appeared on the market several years ago. Despite this, they did not manage to gain special popularity among users. Chipmaker Qualcomm is not concerned about this fact. It continues to produce more and more productive processors for laptops.
At the Snapdragon Summit, representatives of the North American semiconductor manufacturer announced the start of development of a new chipset for laptops with ARM architecture. It will be marketed under the Oryon brand.
The x86 architecture is based on two components. It is about CPU and GPU. If the PC user intensively uses AI algorithms in his work, then both accelerators begin to feel an increased load. In chipsets from the Snapdragon line, the Hexagon signal chip is responsible for ensuring the operation of AI algorithms. This approach frees up CPU and GPU resources for other tasks.
The development of a new ARM processor for Windows laptops was supported by Citi, Adobe and Microsoft. It became possible thanks to Qualcomm’s acquisition of NUVIA.
