Renault Trucks will produce electric cargo bikes
The Renault Trucks and Kleuster cooperation project is starting.
Renault Trucks has joined forces with Kleuster, a Lyon-based electric cargo bike manufacturer, to accelerate the production and distribution of Freegônes e-cargo bikes.
These cargo bikes will be assembled at the heart of Renault Trucks’ industrial site in Venisier and distributed through the manufacturer’s European network. With this partnership, Renault Trucks is adding a ‘last mile’ delivery solution to its range of electric vehicles.
Eight years ago, Kleuster launched its pioneering Freegônes professional e-bike. These electric cargo bikes are currently sold through the French Renault Trucks network, and from 2023 – in its European network.
To meet the growing demand, Renault Trucks has already created a production team of about a dozen people. In the very short term, production capacity will increase fivefold compared to 2022.
Kleuster’s Freegônes is an outstanding product developed through years of research and feedback based adaptation, with an active portfolio of key customers working primarily on last mile delivery. Almost 200 Freegônes are now pedaling across France, some for more than 7 years, a testament to their reliability and durability.
Not only can Freegônes drive up to roads, cycle paths, pedestrian zones and LEZs, their small size and flexibility mean they can get closer to delivery points and therefore to customers. With a range of 80 km, this e-bike can be more productive than a station wagon and more cost-effective due to low transport costs.
Built on a monocoque chassis, Freegônes is the only cargo bike on the market that offers 5 modules (dry box, cooler box, food service, flat container and waste container), each with its own characteristics. While the Freegônes dry box has an unrivaled load capacity (350 kg payload and 2 m3 usable volume), the Freegônes refrigerated box is the only electronic cargo bike that offers ATP-approved temperature control from -25°C to +4° C. The Garbage Collector is the only electronic cargo bike that can automatically unload into a dump truck or container in less than 20 seconds.
The modularity makes this electronic cargo bike ideal for a variety of purposes, from collecting or delivering packages or products, courier services, craft trade, waste collection, landscaping and the food sector.
