How long do you have to work to retire?

After acquiring the required length of service and age, Ukrainians have the right to retire. In other cases, the state provides social assistance to citizens.

Next year, the requirements for the number of years of insurance service required for retirement will be changed. Accordingly, to retire at the age of 60, you will need to have at least 31 years of service, while now 30 years is enough.

To receive an old-age pension, Ukrainian citizens need to have at least 30 years of service and reach the age of 60, but the insurance period increases every year. It is also possible to retire at the age of 63 and 65 if you do not have 30 years of service. At the age of 63, the requirements for retirement are as follows:

  • in 2023 – from 20 to 30 years of service;
  • in 2024 – from 21 to 31 years of service;
  • in 2025 – from 22 to 32 years of service;
  • in 2026 – from 23 to 33 years of service;
  • in 2027 – from 24 to 34 years of service;
  • in 2028 – from 25 to 35 years of service.

To retire at age 65, you must meet the following requirements:

  • in 2023 – from 15 to 20 years of service;
  • in 2024 – from 15 to 21 years of service;
  • in 2025 – from 15 to 22 years of service;
  • in 2026 – from 15 to 23 years of service;
  • in 2027 – from 15 to 24 years of service;
  • in 2028 – from 15 to 25 years of service.

Who is eligible for early retirement?

Certain categories of Ukrainian citizens can receive pensions ahead of schedule, and payments are provided for:

  1. visually impaired persons of group I: men – 50 years of age with 15 years of insurance period; women – 40 years of age, insurance period – 10 years;
  2. persons with a special health condition: men – 45 years of age with at least 20 years of insurance experience; women – 40 years of age with at least 15 years of insurance experience;
    Participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident, victims of the Chernobyl disaster: men – 55 years old with 25 years of insurance experience; women – 50 years old, insurance experience – 20 years;
  3. mothers who have given birth to 5 or more children and raised them up to the age of 6, as well as fathers of children with disabilities since childhood who have raised them up to the age of 6: mothers – 50 years old, at least 15 years of insurance experience; fathers – 55 years old, at least 20 years of insurance experience.

Also, military personnel who ensured national security and defense, participated in combat operations and have the status of combatants retire earlier.
