Rheinmetall to hand over 14 Leopard 2 tanks ordered by the Netherlands to Ukraine

The German arms concern Rheinmetall will hand over 14 Leopard 2 tanks ordered by the Netherlands to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The first one will arrive in Ukraine in January 2024

Tagesschau writes about it.

“Rheinmetall has announced that the order is in the triple-digit million euro range,” the statement said.

It is noted that a corresponding agreement was also reached with the German federal government.

The first of the 14 main battle tanks is to be delivered to Ukraine in January 2024, and the rest of the vehicles are to be delivered during 2024.

These are tanks that the concern had previously received from other countries.

In particular, Germany, Poland, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands are working to provide Ukraine with Leopard main battle tanks to counter Russia. The United States, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands are together providing over 90 T-72 tanks to Ukraine. Poland also provides its T-72s. The United Kingdom provides Ukraine with a company of Challenger main battle tanks.

In March, nine countries announced their intention to provide Ukraine with more than 150 Leopard tanks. In addition, the Swedish government has decided to transfer ten Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine to prepare for a counteroffensive.
