Russia plans to use “mini-Gherani” to clear the way for missiles

On the night of October 21, Russians attempted an attack on Kyiv region using a previously unknown type of kamikaze drone. Journalists of the Military Chronicle claim that smaller versions of the Shahed-136 took part in the attack.

The drone shot down in Kyiv region was equipped with a DLE 60 gas engine. A photo of the wreckage was posted online. On AliExpress, the power unit is offered for purchase at a price of UAH 18,000. Anyone can buy it. During operation, the DLE 60 makes a sound similar to a lawn mower. It is much higher than that of the MD550 engine installed in the Shahed-136.

Several versions of the story are presented in the Military Chronicle. According to the first version, the Kyiv region was attacked by Italmas drones manufactured by Aeroscan, a Zala Aero group company. She is also in charge of publishing Lancets. In the technical documentation, the drone is referred to as “Product 54”. In early fall, it was shown to the President of the Russian Federation.

“Aeroscan positions Italmass as a continuation of the Geranium idea. The drone’s engine looks really similar to the DLE 60. Fuel tanks are located in the wings of the Kamikaze UAV. Its flight range exceeds 200 km.

The second version is that the photo posted on the Internet shows the wreckage of the power unit from the new Geranium-3 drone. It is a smaller copy of the Shahed-136. The weight of the Geranium-3 warhead is 25 kg. Its range is about the same as that of the Shahed-136. At the same time, its production is three times cheaper. Allegedly, the Russian VKS plans to use new drones to clear the way for cruise missiles.
