Russian army hit two gas storage facilities in Ukraine at night – Naftogaz

On April 11, the Russian army struck the most important technological elements of Ukraine’s gas transportation system. It is about two underground gas storage facilities (UGS), the press service of Naftogaz informs.

“Early in the morning, the enemy attacked two Ukrainian UGS facilities. At present, specialists are eliminating the consequences of the attack,” the company said.

Both storage facilities continue to operate. No employees of the facilities were injured in the attack.

Naftogaz did not specify where the hits occurred. Earlier, however, the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, reporting on the consequences of the missile attack in the region, said that a gas distribution infrastructure facility was hit in Stryi district and an electrical substation in Chervonohrad district.

In total, during the night attack, the aggressor hit energy system facilities in five regions – Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. According to Ukrenergo, both electrical installations intended for the conversion and distribution of electricity and generation facilities of the system were affected. For the night attack, the enemy used 82 air assets, of which 42 were missiles. Air defense forces and means eliminated 39 out of 40 “Shaheds” and 18 out of 42 missiles, while the aeroballistic “Daggers” were not destroyed.

The enemy has previously attempted to attack Ukraine’s gas transportation system. The Ministry of Energy explained that these actions of Moscow “are more likely aimed at instilling a certain fear in foreigners and destabilizing the situation” than at damaging the facilities.
