Samsung Pay stops supporting Russian Mir payment cards due to sanctions
Samsung Pay, a mobile payment service, has announced that it will stop working with the Russian payment system Mir. Adding and using cards in the program will be unavailable from April 3.
In addition, all previously added Mir cards will be deleted from the program. Paying for public transportation using Samsung Pay will also be unavailable.
At the same time, Russians still have the opportunity to add loyalty cards to Samsung Pay. The service will also continue to operate in Belarus, where it will be possible to add Visa and Mastercard cards that have left Russia.
The South Korean company Samsung has stopped officially supplying its goods to Russia and stopped producing household appliances in the country after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine.
The South Korean brand has no plans to return to the Russian market until the war is over. Samsung, like other large foreign companies, fears secondary US sanctions.
On the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion, the United States has struck at the Russian financial sector. The Russian payment system Mir has also been subject to US sanctions.
