Six Ukrainian pilots killed in Donetsk region: Ukrainian Armed Forces confirm the tragedy

The Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed that on August 29, two Mi-8 helicopters crashed during a combat mission in Kramatorsk district, Donetsk region. Six pilots are known to have been killed.

Ilya Yevlash, the head of the press service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told RBC-Ukraine.

“Yes, indeed, there was a plane crash involving two Mi-8 helicopters. They were on a combat mission. While they were performing the mission, an enemy Su-35 fighter jet was in the air,” he said.

A representative of the Ukrainian Armed Forces emphasizes that the information on the number of dead is preliminary and needs to be clarified. However, earlier the head of the press service of the 18th Separate Army Aviation Brigade had already noted that six people were killed.

According to Yevlash, the cause of the crash of the two helicopters remains unknown. Investigators are examining all the circumstances and details of the tragedy, and a special commission is in place.

“What caused this disaster will be known later,” he added.
