Six wheels and an electric motor: the most non-standard Ford pickup truck is presented (photo)

The new Ford Ranger will be available in a three-axle version. The pickup received an additional 282-horsepower motor for the rear wheels.

The Ford Ranger 2023 pickup truck received an unusual HEX 6X6 modification. The six-wheeled car will become a production model. This is reported on the Ricardo website.

It is this automotive component manufacturer that will set up the assembly of the Ford Ranger HEX 6X6. The basis was a two-door model with a low-sided body.

The new Ford Ranger didn’t just get a third axle. A completely different rear suspension of the DeDion type was installed on the pickup.

What’s more, a 282-horsepower electric motor was added: it rotates the rear wheels and helps the 3.0-liter 250-horsepower turbodiesel engine. Thus, the new Ford Ranger HEX 6X6 has become a hybrid.

The pickup cannot be driven on electric power, because the battery is small and powered by brake regeneration. But its carrying capacity has increased from 992 to 3800 kg.

It is noteworthy that the third axle and the hybrid system are combined into a special module and are easy to install at a regular service station. Ricardo plans to launch the production of such kits for converting a Ford Ranger into a six-wheeler. A more affordable version without an electric motor and with a 6X4 drive is also planned.
